Wall Street’s standard advice: your retirement portfolio should be 60% stocks, 40% bonds, with a few different funds on each side. Do that, and you’re “diversified”…or so they claim.

The problem: everything in that portfolio lives on Wall Street, and Wall Street products are highly correlated – on a big red day, everything ends up red. The diversification meant to keep that from happening fails in practice.

Dustin and Adam walk through where diversification actually works: outside your 401(k) and brokerage account, in real assets like real estate, energy, and private credit. And they discuss the broader point that those assets don’t just move independently…they produce real cash flow while you own them.

That changes the retirement plan itself. Instead of selling down a nest egg to live, you own assets that keep paying you.
